Skin Care Routine and Top picks!

My Skin Care Routine!

To achieve a great make-up look, you need to have a flawless if not, a smooth canvass to work with.
With this being said, you need to take great care of you skin first before you get a the best make-up look you are aiming for.

I don't have a perfect flawless skin, please note on that! But I manage to keep my face (as much as possible), clear and less dry and not oily on the t-zone (if that makes sense).

First, wash my face with a facial wash, I was a bar soap user before, but through research, I learned that bar soaps tend to clog your pores, thus making your skin dry.  When your pores are clogged, sebum or the oil on your face will not come out and bacteria are likely be trapped as well causing your skin to swell and pimples/acne are likely to form.

To avoid these pimple, whiteheads, blackheads and cyst, you must regularly wash and exfoliate your skin. It is more advisable to use liquid soap that claims to be "non-comedogenic" as this will not clog your pores. And the top 3 favorite facial wash I have are these :

Top 1. Clinique Liquid Facial Soap, Mild, for Dry Combination skin
Top 2. The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Foaming Cleanser
Top 3. Celeteque Dermo Science + Facial Wash with NMF (Natural Moisturizing Factor)

These products helped my skin control the dryness and oiliness at the same time, I do not say it will work for everybody, but this sure worked for me.
If I have the ugliest dry skin ever in my entire life, I use the Clinique Liquid Facial Soap, but we all know how expensive this could get so I looked for a much cheaper brand that really works and I found Celeteque, though I get occasional pimples with using this products, I found that  The Body Shop Tea Tree Foaming Cleanser works well with maintaining my skin free from acne and pimples.

And then of course we need to exfoliate!
We need to rub off those dead skin once in a while, I do exfoliate every thrice a week, as I have dry skin, it is a must that I exfoliate regularly to avoid the flakes on my skin, if not I get the weirdest dry patches ever!
I have not found any other exfoliating scrub that I would want to use except for this :

St. Ives Naturally Clear Apricot Scrub

I love this Apricot Scrub from St.Ives as this is a Blemish & Blackhead Control, it is oil-free and has salicylic acid that we know is a great ingredient to prevent acne plus it is paraben free!
This scrub though I may say is a bit harsh if you have sensitive skin as the scrubs do not melt, so it is not advisable to use everyday.

After I wash my face and/or exfoliate, I tone my face to prevent excessive oil secretion and tone my pores.
I use a pore tightening and clarifying toner with salicylic acid from L'Oreal Paris Pure Zone. But sometimes if my skin is being stubborn, I feel that this toner dries my skin too fast, I use my Clinique Clarifiying Lotion 2. But at night time and I feel that I need to hydrate my face and I want a supple and soft skin in the morning, I will use my The Body Shop Vitamin E Hydrating Toner, which is Alcohol-free, that is good for my dry skin and great for all skin types as well.
Top 1. Clinque Clarifying Lotion 2
Top 2. L'oreal Paris Pure Zone Pore Tightening and Clarifying Toner
Top 3. The Body Shop Vitamin E Hydrating Toner

And too finish my skin care routine, I always use a moisturizer. I believe that even you have the oiliest skin, you still have to moisturize your skin. When you clean your face and tone it, some of the moisture on the skin is lost and as we get older our skin tends to loose its elasticity and dries out. So it is still best to help our skin to get moisture, you just have to find what suits your skin best.
For me, it has been these products :
Top 1. Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion
Top 2. Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief
These moisturizers I use if my skin is super dry as it helps a lot. It maybe very expensive for some, but it is all worth the money. So if you can and you can afford Clinique, it is for sure a must try~! Plus if you go to their counters you can have your skin consultation 101, to know more about your skin.

But I use a different moisturizer or day cream especially if I am going out, and know that I will be exposed to the sun. I need to use something that has SPF on it.
And these are my favorites out of all the day cream that I have use :
Top 1. Clean and Clear, Clear Fairness Moisturizer with SPF 15 and Whitening Vitamin C
Top 2. Olay Total Effects 7-in-1 Anti-Ageing Cream Normal SPF 15

You may be wondering why I choose Clean and Clear top 1 than the Olay, it is because I find a lot of hassle when it comes to Olay. One is it makes my skin shiny too fast in a day, if I sweat I notice red patches on my skin only when I use this and it has a scent to it that Clean and Clear don't have, plus because it is oil free it does not make my face shiny. :)

And lastly, are eye cream.
I found that using eye cream, whatever brand it is you prefer to use, it is very helpful. Prevent premature wrinkles and fine lines, puffiness and circles.
Top 1. Clinique Repairwear
Top 2. Clinique All About Eyes

Having a great skin is having a beautiful face. These products that I use may help and work for you but take note that it may also NOT. But do not get tired of looking for a great product that will suit your skin best.

I have not discovered these products in just a week, but it took me 6months to 1 year and tested out so many many products (some made my skin horrible than it was) but its OK all in the name of beauty, haha~!

I hope you find this blog helpful and let me know what works best for you too! I would love to hear from you guys!

Thanks for reading! Have a great day!

*Note : The products posted some of were purchased by my own money and some were sent as gift/loot.
I was not paid to post a blog for the products, all opinions are mine and not manipulated by any of the company mentioned.

A Review : Clinique "Youth Surge Night"

Finally! I have enough use of the Youth Surge Night to do a review of it.

It has been approximately 3 weeks since I have been using this product from the day I got it as a free sample from the Clinique Event I went to. ( to read about the event, click here. )

The Youth Surge Night I got was intended for my skin type which is in (Clinique way of leveling it) Skin Type #2 and it's for Dry Combination Skin which I did not know about until the said event, so I am very thankful for Clinique for such an great skin consultation 101 that helped me know what my skin type is. :)

Price wise for this product in Peso, I do not know. But price on their website is $49.00.

So without further intro here is the product :

And I am Skin Type #2 (Dry Combination)

Basically, as what Clinique consultant told me (Ms.Dindin), that a dry combi skin like mine is typically oily on the t-zone (fore head, nose and quarter way through cheeks from nose, and chin) and then dry on other parts of the face like cheeks under-eyes, and temples including jaw line i suppose as I get dry on that part as well.

How I applied it:
1. At night I clean my face, tone and apply this product concentrating on dry parts. (Meaning, applying a little on t-zone area and more on the dry area.)

The first time I use this product I was amazed how my skin got so moist throughout the night up to the morning I wake up. It was so soft and guess what, my face was not oily (as we usually do when we wake up).. For the first time, I got so amazed with a night cream that moisten your skin but not making it oily in the morning! o.0 stunned, shocked and glad I got the chance to try it out! Whhhooaa!

Here are some photos of the product and descriptions :

This is only a sample size.
Net wt. : 0.24 oz. or 0.77 ml
Made in U.K.

Can you see the dent I made in the product? A little goes a long way I may say after using it for 3 weeks, I still have a lot! I think this will take me months before I use it all up. :)

At the product leaflet it says that :
Allergy Tested. 100% Fragrance Free
U.S. and International Patent-Pending Technology.

CLINIQUE
Look Better, Longer
Youth Surge Night
Age Decelerating Night Moisturizer.

This note made me even more fascinated.
"When will I see result?"
In terms of hydration, immediately. Fine dry lines will appear softened and far less noticeable. Skin will look and feel softer more refreshed. The hard work of lifting lines and wrinkles takes time. In about 4 weeks you will begin to see measurable, visible improvement.

There are loads of good to great claims the have in the leaflet but as I only use it for quite a while I cannot testify to others.

(From Clinique.com)
Building on Sirtuin technology, Clinique science uses youth-extending agents to create a nightly moisturizer that helps intensify the nightly cycle of natural repair. Plumped with natural collagen, lines and wrinkles appear to evaporate. Skin gains that energized "8-hour effect" come morning.
  • Skin Types: All

Here is the products consistency and when applied :

Creamy in consistency. A little goes a long way.

Can you tell the difference? Left side of back of my hand has the Youth Surge Night and the other half did not have any. If you think its kind'a oily, I tell you it is not. It is so moist and instantly makes you skin soft and smooth.

My opinion!

Likes :
1. Amazingly effective on hydrating/moisturizing my skin at night.
2. Does not make my face oily in the morning.
3. Makes my skin soft and smooth.
4. It actually makes my fine lines un-noticeable because it moisten the skin.
5. Easy to blend in the skin.
6. No harsh or strong smell, does have a very refreshing light scent.
7. On applying the product it makes your skin feel fresh.

Dislikes :
1. Container is not hygienic, need to dip your fingers to get the product.
2. Consistency is a cream, I personally prefer gel or water-base, if that makes sense.
3. Pricey! :P

Would I purchase this product? YES, despite the price, the product is so worth it!
Would I recommend it? Definitely for those who can afford and near to a Clinique booth or counter.

All in all I LOVE this product!

Thanks for reading! I hope you find this review informative!

A Review : Clinique Lash Power Mascara and Superbalm Moisturizing Gloss

As to my previous blogs, I went to a Clinique Party, held at Rustan's Makati last June 18. And by attending the event, participants/attendees got the chance to get free samples from Clinique.

I got some great products in my loot bag.
Free Samples :
1. Youth Surge Night
2. Superbalm Moisturizing Gloss
3. Lash Power Mascara
4. Repairwear Intensive Eye cream

Given the chance of getting this great product samples I commit myself of doing a review and promised Charles of wickeRmoss that I will be reviewing the products of Clinique and blogging and vlogging about it.
(Clinique and wickeRmoss did not forced me to do this review nor paid me, I voluntarily and whole heartedly did this review and all opinions are mine and nobody influence me in anyway.)

For the meantime, I will only be reviewing the Superbalm Moisturizing Gloss and Lash Power Mascara as I have already gotten ample time to make a review for these as I have been using the mascara and lipgloss for more than a week now. As for the Youth Surge Night and Repairwear Intensive Eye cream, I will be doing a review for these products after two (2) or more weeks of use.

So going to the review!

From Clinique site :
Lip balm with a colourful twist. Luscious, high-gloss shades treat your most undermoisturized skin to soothing shine. Instantly relieve dryness, protect with antioxidants and more.
  • Coverage: Sheer
  • Benefits: Moisturizing
Price ( Full size ) : Php 900.00*

My opinion :
Likes!
1. It is very shiny on the lips when applied.
2. Very hydrating/moisturizing.
3. I love the fact that it is a BALM and a GLOSS at the same time.
4. A little goes a long way.
5. Hydrates/Moisturize your lips for long hours.
6. Not sticky or heavy on the lips.
7. Leaves your lips smooth and supple.

Dislikes!
1. A bit pricey for a gloss or a balm.
2. Clinique in general is not widely available, so for someone like me who lives in the province, it is hard to purchase.

Would I purchase this product? YES, despite the price, the product is well worth it!
Would I recommend it? Definitely for those who can afford and near to a Clinique booth or counter.

All in all I LOVE this product!
Without Superbalm

With Superbalm

From Clinique site :
Mascara with staying power. Vows to look pretty for 24 hours without a smudge or smear. Lasts through rain, sweat, humidity, tears. Yet the formula removes easily with warm water. Unique brush reaches and beautifully lengthens even the tiniest lashes. Ophthalmologist Tested.
  • Benefits: Long Wearing
Price ( Full size ) : Php 1,400.00*

My opinion :
Likes!
1. Flatters your lashes.
2. Easy to apply.
3. Does not clump however or how many coats you apply.
4. Reaches the tiniest lashes, even my not-so visible bottom lashes.
5. Long wearing, last the whole day!
6. Smudge and smear proof.
7.Defines and volumizes my lashes.
8. Easily removes with warm-water. NO NEED for make-up remover! its GREAT!

Dislike!
1. A bit pricey, but doable for those who can buy.
2. Formula dries a bit slow, so if you are not careful it will transfer to your eyelids or under eye.
3. I don't see any big of a difference in length. ;P

Would I purchase this product? I think so :D, despite the price, the product is very promising and a must-have!
Would I recommend it? Only for those who can afford and near to a Clinique booth or counter.

All in all, I also LOVE this product. Among-st all the mascaras I have tried, this works for me best!

Without Lash Power Marcara
Can you even see my bottom lashes? It's invisible! :P

With Lash Power Mascara
Look how my bottom lashes are now seen. ALAS!

So how about you? What brand is your lipgloss or mascara? Have you drop by a Clinique Counter/Booth to try out this great products?! So what are you waiting for? Try it for yourself and be the judge.. :)
